Acer Chromebook Tab 10, the first Chrome OS tablet for schools

Providing a press review and analysis service for our customers allows us to get a preview of all the new products coming onto the market, and in the last few days we have received news from Taiwan that Acer has unveiled the first educational tablet running Chrome OS, the Acer Chromebook Tab 10.

The device is designed for education and classroom use, where it aims to extend and enhance student learning by bringing the speed, simplicity and security of Chrome OS to the tablet format for the first time. “The Acer Chromebook Tab 10 combines all the latest advances in the areas of hardware and software support to bring a meaningful learning experience to an even wider range of students,” explained James Lin, general manager, commercial & detachable Notebooks, IT Products Business at Acer. “The new Acer Chromebook Tab 10 spurs students to discover new ways of understanding the world around them.”

Students can keep an eye on their class work and apps thanks to a 9.7-inch QXGA touch display with IPS technology, 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution and 264 pixels per inch definition. The front-facing webcam is 2 megapixels, the rear one 5 mpx. The Acer Chromebook Tab 10 also offers full support for the Google Play digital store, giving teachers and students access to millions of Android apps. The Acer Chromebook Tab 10 weighs 550 grams, measures 172.2 x 238.2 x 9.98 millimetres and is coloured cobalt blue. The device, which comes standard with a Wacom EMR stylus, offers a battery life of up to 9 hours.

The processor of the new Acer Chromebook Tab 10 integrates dual-core Cortex A72 and quad-core Cortex-A53 processors, 4GB of RAM and 32GB for storage. Wi-Fi 2×2 MIMO 802.11ac connectivity and support for Bluetooth 4.1 standard. There is a USB 3.1 Type-C Gen port that can be used to charge the device and for fast data transfer at up to 5 Gbps as well as connect to an HD display. The tablet also has a combo jack output for headphones and speakers and a MicroSD card reader. It will be available to educational and general public customers from May for just €329.
