Airbnb launches experiences and services: travel becomes authentic

According to Airbnb, travel has lost some of its magic in recent years: it’s no longer as surprising and unpredictable as it once was. In a world where every itinerary seems pre-written and shared by thousands of tourists, the experience of travel has turned into a checklist, often the same for everyone. To counter this uniformity in tourism, Airbnb released a unique commercial on its official YouTube channel. With this video, the brand speaks directly to travelers seeking authentic experiences, far from standardized paths.

The ad opens with a three-dimensional map marked by the word “travel”, introducing the central theme of the video: how the concept of travel has changed over time. In the first part, the story evokes an adventure novel atmosphere, with animated characters crossing landscapes in carriages or on locomotives, even facing mythical creatures like a giant sea monster. It’s an idealized representation of travel as an experience of discovery, full of surprises and emotions.

The tone shifts abruptly to the present: a modern couple moves through a crowded city, surrounded by tourists all taking the same photos in the same places. Travel now seems stripped of its original meaning, reduced to a set of pre-established stops to follow precisely. It is at this point that the narrator offers a pivotal reflection: “The world is still full of wonder. You just need a better way to look for it.”

And this is where Airbnb’s new proposition takes shape: Experiences. Introduced as a more authentic way to explore a destination, these activities allow travelers to truly connect with local culture and people. The spot highlights evocative examples: learning to make ramen with a world-renowned chef or visiting a hidden temple guided by an anthropologist. These are personalized experiences, far from the well-trodden paths of mass tourism, designed to restore that human and unpredictable essence of travel that had faded over time.

Starting in May 2025, Airbnb began integrating these Experiences directly into the platform, alongside another major innovation: Airbnb Services. With the release of the new Summer Release, the company is expanding its ecosystem to include in-home services—such as private chefs, spa treatments, personal trainers, or beauticians—available in over 260 cities worldwide. Everything is manageable through a fully revamped app that allows users to plan their stay simply and personally, combining lodging, experiences, and services into a single solution.

With this campaign, Airbnb doesn’t just promote new features; it sends a much broader message: travel isn’t just about moving from one place to another—it’s a chance to marvel, connect with people, and learn something new. The goal is to transform every stay into an extraordinary and unrepeatable experience, bringing adventure and authenticity back to the heart of modern tourism.
