Edits Debuts: Instagram Launches a New Creative Project

Meta has introduced yet another new feature on Instagram. In addition to the native integration of Meta AI and the “Grid Edit” function we’ve already discussed, the platform now offers an additional tool to enhance and simplify content creation: Edits, a video editing app for creating and assembling content.

The app is free and works by simply logging into your Instagram account. It includes typical features found in most editing apps, such as video trimming and creation tools. Plus, the “Ideas” function allows users to jot down content concepts, while the “Projects” section stores all drafts in one place until you’re ready to publish. Through the “Inspiration” tab, users can explore trending content to spark creativity for their own videos.

From a technical standpoint, the app is highly intuitive and integrates AI-powered tools, along with effects, transitions, and green screen features. For instance, AI can be used to automatically enhance content or turn static images into short animated videos. Also worth highlighting are the powerful “Insights” — detailed analytics to understand how your content is performing and to help plan future posts and videos strategically.

What about the competition? According to Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri, Edits isn’t just a CapCut rival (used within TikTok). It’s a professional-grade tool designed for creators seeking more control, quality, and advanced features. Meta’s goal is to retain creators by providing an end-to-end solution for content creation, publishing, and platform integration — reducing reliance on third-party services.
